How Freckle Face Strawberry Got His Freckles

In 1965, The Pillsbury Company produced a series of short but cute kids books based on their very popular Funny Face powdered instant drink mix line-- here's one tale in its entirety, starring the incredibly delicious Freckle Face Strawberry!

I count fifty-five freckles. Did you add freckles, Karswell?

Then sheesh. You'd think if they were gonna be daring the kids to count for themselves they'd get it right. I think this had to be diabolically premeditated to screw with their budding psychologies in some way or another.

Haha, or maybe they just didn't think that anyone in the world would bother counting them. You have to admit, most worlds aren't equipped for Mr. Cs...

You can't spell OCD without C! But seriously, eighty percent of all children's books are all about counting, right? This is just mean.

Good lord, my blog is here to make people feel good-- not creating downer frowner brownies! :(

Let's just say this is making me feel good. How boring would it have been if I hadn't bothered to count those freckles, and so remained unaware of the vast Pillsbury conspiracy to tinker with the heads of a generation of unsuspecting children? So much makes sense now!

Maybe Red Fred is the real culprit, he said he would give the strawberry 51 freckles, but maybe Red Fred was also known as Flunked Fred to his teacher, especially when it came to math or adding (or maybe the illustrator became an illustrator because he flunked counting back in grade school)

To add to the confusion/frustration, on the cover of the book the strawberry has 47 freckles showing, no wonder this book was only 29 cents with such a careless illustrator

Careless illustrator unlikely, Pillsbury conspiracy-- maybe.

I wish I still had my plastic Funny Face drinking mugs :(

Wonderful blog! I found it while searching on Yahoo News. Do you have any tips on how to get listed in Yahoo News? I've been trying for a while but I never seem to get there! Many thanks

We had this book as kids way back in the 1960s! So much nostalgia. <3

Saw this book in a picture of my husband when he was 3/4 years old. He was born in 1963.
